Fit to run your country?
As election day on May 6th draws closer, and our next government hangs in the balance, is it time we assessed our political leading lights and their physical capacity to lead our country?
Recent research links running with brain growth (see link below) and surely that is reason alone we demand our next leader is fit as a butchers dog.

Bean and running gone?
Cider out - coffee beans in:
While Cider may have been hit hard by last month’s red man-bag of the Chancellor – café society running champs rejoice as their coffee beans remain free of extra taxation.
The bean boost:
Did you know that caffeine has been shown in studies to boost running endurance, sprint reaction times and even aid recovery.
Oh yes the magic bean can combine both latte luxuriating and running splendor in equal measure.
Ye Olde English proof:
For the healthy skeptics amongst you we offer the trusted prose from a research study published in the BMJ:

Dolly Parton’s lung busting voice sang it and we like to think we at LGN help deliver the ‘9 – 5’ functional lung developing experience.
LGN have been providing corporate in-house running clubs for several years, our growth has been a direct response to the fact that running is the most time efficient and truly functional form of exercise and our structured sessions can effectively be done from work.
Consistency is our key watchword and enjoying LGN sessions from work often proves to become an inclusive aspect of your working day, as opposed to an additional chore to be done when eventually at home once the domestic to-do list has been ticked.
This is not the...

We always wondered what Run - DMC stood for, but we recently discovered it was 'Run - Definitely Minimises Coronaries', which for a 1980's rap / rock cross over band we thought was pretty cool...
While Paul McCartney and Wings in the 1970s produced the seminal post-Beatles album called Band on the Run . . . , I doubt they were thinking 30 years ahead to a time of MP3 players and lycra going hand in hand.
LGN are strong advocates of striving to enjoy each run and finding a way that you can get the most smile-time from each aerobic two-stepping effort, and listening to music for many people can certainly enhance the endorphin running joy.
And with Easter fast approaching we are sure the next...

‘Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.’
(Lord Tennyson 1850)
Yup, new beginnings and snow, Tennyson captures the current UK mood pretty succinctly.

“My body is like breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don't think about it, I just have it.” (Usain Bolt 2008)
Oat cuisine, its all the rage darling:
As you read food is important to Usain’s life and breakfast is what kick starts his training each day.
As we have suggested in previous LGN tips, porridge is the fuel of running greats that includes the marathon Queen Paula, her choice of porridge recipe of choice is by all accounts the classic and beautifully simple porridge, banana and honey.
Porridge is the breakfast gift that just keeps giving, check out LGN’s top 5 health facts.
1. Porridge releases energy slowly and thus can keep you going longer

Failing to achieve Great 26.2 Expectations?
What the Dickens?!
Recent articles in the US indicate that many runners stateside are struggling to achieve their marathon expectations and indeed fail to find the true benefits of running a marathon.
The Wall Street Journal in particular recently wrote about the lack of runners finding true health via a marathon route despite increasing participation levels “The number of marathon participants crossing the finish line in America keeps rising, jumping 3% in 2008 to a record 425,000” (Wall Street Journal October 2009)
Indeed the Wall Street Journal went on to quote “In a sport where 40% of runners are first-...

One of the beautiful aspects to running is that while fitness can be measured, calibrated and downloaded onto a spreadsheet, how you actually use this fitness is somewhat less numeric nor black and white.
Instead pace judgement requires us to obtain a true feel for what our body is trying to tell us and the art of getting in tune with fitness is just as important as the training itself.
Learn to control your physiological revs and take control of your running
If you have recently done your first charity 5km and were left perplexed how you left too much in the tank or indeed ran out of gas with 1km to go, don’t worry it has happened to the very best.

Congratulations to all Jones Lang LaSalle runners & their associates who ran the inaugural JLL charity 5km in aid of Help the Hospices.
Beautiful Regents Park played host and although the exceptional wind blew hard, all runners showed an able gazelle-like grace and skipped to the finish with smiling glee.... photos to follow may put this statement to the test.
Particular gazelle-like applause must go to Christian Olliver the men's winner in 18mins & 28 seconds and indeed Florence Davey-Attlee who was the first woman home in 20.02, both very impressive times given the windy conditions.
Many thanks to all who took part and made it such a...
