LGN Run Club's Pall Mall 1km Out-n-Back

 LGN Run Club's Pall Mall 1km Out-n-Back

Welcome to the latest LGN measured 1km London course, as opposed to our traditional 1km Loop, we broke the mould this and went for a super simple out-n-back course, yes just 500m from point A to point B, followed by quick turn and dash back from B to A.

This course has be created to provide more confidence to our many LGN Run Club members for whom a 1km monthly run can be daunting, we hope this might make the distance far more compact and bijou.

Who needs freinds and family cheering you in training when the Queen might just be routing for you behind bullet proof net curtains?

The measuring tools of our trade, these elegant surveyor's wheels laugh in the face of baby faced GPS technology

LGN 1km loops have been located and measured at several key points around London:

The LGN 1km Loops are used primarily by LGN's corporate Run Clubs http://www.lgnwellbeing.com but we welcome feedabck from all runners.
-
LGN 1km loops serve several key purposes:

  1. Provide comparable LGN standard course for all our Run Clubs
  2. Via monthly time trial assist with tangible fitness progress
  3. Offer guide to tempo for people planning fun runs or PB races
  4. Build confidence for those aiming for initial 5km or 10km
  5. Help fan the flames of Inter LGN Run Club banter

LGN's Buckingham Palace Pall Mall location and 1km route:
Please click link to see map and 1km route - http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/68829664
However, for full pictorial route blog please see below:

Your 1km starts with your back to this majestic building as you head towards Admiralty Arch

The large white flag holding lampost on right handside is your official 1km start point

Yup, there she blows in all her lampost majesty - get ready for some serious Pall Mall lactic love

And you are OFF! - heading down the suprmely flat and smooth surface towards Trafalgar Square

As you pass the main gate at St James's Park you have already covered a heady 286 metres

And this tree opposite the statue of the Queen on other side of the road is your 500m turn around point

And as you will be on the other side of the road we thought you might like a close up of the statue, nice, no?

And upon the turn you simply head back to the Palace and stop at your original lampost

We look forward to seeing some cracking LGN Run Club 1km improvements posted below very soon.

Happy running from all the team at LGN!

Addy - 3.53. The quiet achiever. Excellent first time for 2012. There is more to come.
Alex - 5.38 A well paced effort. Good.

Conditions for Pall Mall were again mild but with much more light than in March. The group was left with the option of running on the rougher terrain or on the smooth path with a few more walking tourists to run rings around.
It was an especially good effort by Sophie as her time was not too far of the previous month even though she has just recovered from a cold. This was May's first time trial an she did very well first time around. It was also Amanda's first 1k of 2012 putting down a reasonable marker to improve on. Addy has been consistent, only 1 second difference to last month.
Sophie - 4.24
May - 4.23
Addy - 3.54
Amanda - 3.37 (*New Women's Course Record*)
Well done all.

This week saw the JLL running group return to Pall Mall for their March 1k time trial. 8 enthusiastic runners embarked on the challenge of either posting their first 1K time or improving on their February effort and gaining the chance to win a brand new pair of Asics running shoes.
Conditions could not have been more different than in February when the runners battled sub zero temperatures this time the runners were bathed in bright spring sunshine with little to no wind. PLease see the times below and percentage improvements.
Edward G 3-39 (not quite a PB but a good effort considering he is nursing a calf injury)
Liselotte T 4-18 (Debut)
Peter G 3-10 (Superb Debut)
Cameron J 3-29 (Excellent Debut)
A Lundgren 4-00 (*New Women's Course Record* & slow close to sub 4mins)

Well done to everyone on some impressive times. It was great to see some new course records and the big improvements from Samantha, Joseph and Darren in such a short period of time. We will keep our fingers crossed for Darren to see if he wins the biggest improver award over all the LGN groups.
