 LGN Regents Canal 1km

Welcome to LGN's only point to point 1km 'Loop' and to what is our flattest route as LGN Run Club members will speed along part of London's rich industrial heritage.

'Pedestrians have priority' sweet music to LGN Run Club member's ears

The starting point for this particular Regents Park 1km is Thornhill Bridge on the Caledonian Road, just 2min jog from Kings Cross

Thornhill Bridge is so much more than a bridge, get ready to enjoy Community Garden after 1km effort

LGN's 1km loops have been located and measured at several key points around London for use primarily by LGN Run Clubs:

LGN 1km loops serve several key purposes:

  1. Provide comparable LGN standard course for all our Run Clubs

  1. Via monthly time trial assist with Run Club members tangible fitness progress

  1. Offer tempo training guide for LGN Run Club members and friends of LGN

  1. Help build confidence for those aiming for their initial 5km or 10km

  1. Fan the already raging flames of Inter LGN Run Club banter & rivalry

We at LGN embrace running based technology with a child-like grip, and for identifying our LGN 1km loops we used internet mapping to find best routes.

However, when it came to accurate measurement we laughed in the face of GPS and instead use trusted measuring techniques for inch perfect accuracy, thus while you will have a route map below, rest easy knowing we walked every single 1km loop with a manual measuring wheel to make sure each one LGN 1km loop is indeed exactly 1km.

LGN meauring wheels - highly calibrated for your LGN 1km running delectation

These railings opposite Thornhill Community Gardens canal entrance mark LGN's 1km start point

Your first sight as you head North at the start of your Regents Canal 1km

Your first of only two 'hills', this one after only 200m - approx 3 feet long and rising a mighty 130 inches

Nature's blossom and urban regeneration in full effect after 300m of your 1km effort

As you run under the first bridge dont forget to shout 'Land Ahoy me heartys' for echo effect

You are at halfway (500m) exactly at this spot just prior to second bridge - hold that momentum!

A funky floating pontoon holds your gazelle-like strides aloft while the regeneration work continues

At 700m a chicance will attempt to slow you as canal bends right - laugh in its face and push on

One final chicane and your second 'hill', attack it hard as the 1km finish is now close at hand

As you ascend the might 'hill' peak you can just see the green bridge 150m away which is your 1km finish

The start of the white railing under the bridge is exactly 1km!

Well done to all who run this LGN 1km loop regularly and we look forward to hearing your times tumble via LGN forum below.

Happy running from all the team at LGN!

Despite battling past waves of cyclists and pedestrians on the Regents Canal runners from Team OMD managed to break 2 course records this month.
Here are the times;
Paul B- First effort at the distance...Mens course record. Bang! 3.21
Simon- In the midst of heavy training for the London Marathon (and wearing some heavy winter training gear!), Simon run another consistent 1k time, coming home in 3.32. Consistency is the key to the marathon so Simon should rip it up!
Stephen B. First session back for a while- and a great 3.58 time. Its all the running away from Zombies I reckon (Its an App...Stephen can explain)
Natalie- Also in prep for the Marathon (Brighton this time) and making her debut at the distance...and she smashed the course record finishing in 4.15! Amazing.
Melanie G- Another cracking run from Melanie- recording a 3 second improvement (1%) on her 2012 time- despite eating around 100 ice creams earlier in the day! Well done Melanie- that womens record isn't beyond you!

Only 2 runners from the OMD squad braved the Regents Canal Loop this month- but they made up for the lack of numbers with two awesome performances.
Simon G- 3.29 4% improvement- 8sec.A consistent period of training for Simon leads to a new course record- and he looked comfortable! Roll on April!
Melanie P- 4.29- 15% improvement/ 46 sec PB. An amazing run from Melanie (perhaps inspired by Simon's knowledge of the French language in the warm-up) who improved her 1k time by 46sec! She was only seconds away from the 1k Canal course record- I think she'll get it next time! 46 seconds- Wow!
Hopefully we'll see a few more faces next month gunning for those times!

Despite the cold weather and wet pathway the OMD runners set the Canal Path alight for Novembers 1k trial.
Both the women's and men's records fell and all those who completed October's inaugural 1k time trial improved their time- and it a Top gear style wet lap! Amazing performance- shows how much we're all improving. Ive got a fiver on a new record being set in December!
Jaime P - 3.33 (First effort on the course and a new record!)
Simon- 3.37 (with Mo in toe, Simon records 11sec/5% improvement)
Jessica 4.40 (a whooping 15secs off Octobers time giving a 5% improvement!)
Johanna- 4.23 (First attempt...bang, ladies record- great run)

A big well done to OMD International on completing your first LGN 1K run.
I look forward to seeing your progress over the coming months. I have a feeling some brand new Asics shoes will be making their way to your office very soon!

OMD Runners ventured down to Regents Canal for their first LGN 1k timetrial effort last week. Despite having to dodge a few pedestrians the team set some epic times to chase next month. We also had a female and males course record.....it doesn't matter that it was the first time the course had been used!
Here are the numbers
Simon- 3.48 (mens record- whoop!)
Bernherd- 4.04
Rebecca C- 4.30 (womens record- yeaaah!)
Laura- 4.38
Rebecca W- 4.40
Jessica- 4.55
Melanie 5.15
Sofia- 5.56
That's a pretty consistent performance across the board- particularly from the ladies...I think the LGN 5K title could be heading to North London next year!!
